I don't go to see a movie very often. I'm not sure why. I love movies - well, I love some movies. The romantic comedies that make me laugh are certainly my favorites because who wants to cry anyway? I don't like war movies or movies about injustice because they make my heart hurt way beyond crying. There are so few happy movies any more that I've just gradually quit going. But this weekend I went twice.
First of all (true confession time) I love the Twilight series of books and have read all four of them twice now and will probably read them again. I've seen Twilight (the movie) at the theater once and at home once and in my camper twice. I know, why in the world would I watch it that many times? The same reason I've seen Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail a hundred forty seven times each. Slight exaggeration. Love conquers all....boy loves girl, girl loves boy....happy ending....beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm all about movies that are all about love. I'm sure you can deduce that this weekend I saw New Moon, the second movie in the Twilight series. I'm on Team Edward in case any of you are interested. I bet that real movie people think these movies would never get an A+ with real movie people and maybe they're right. I don't care. I loved it and I will see it again. In fact, I've been borrowing my daughter's copy of Twilight and I just may buy my own copy and a copy of New Moon when it's available. I'll add it to my collection that includes, you guessed it, Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail. When I watch movies like these I leave the theater, or turn off the television, with a sigh, thinking "all's well with the world." And I like that feeling.
And then, wonder of wonders, the next day I went to see The Blind Side. I love, love, love Sandra Bullock and would probably go see her in anything but she is incredibly perfect in this movie. This is the world as I want it to be. Well, her part in it anyway. She plays the part of a white, rich, southern woman in Memphis who runs across a black kid who is way out of his element in a private Christian high school. He has little family and no one taking care of him so she, Sandra, takes him home with her and he becomes her son/she becomes his mama. She is as fierce as a mama bear and fights for him with every fiber of her heart. I know that God loves children and He loves those who take care of his children. And I love to see it happen. It will join my growing collection of "feel good" movies.
I know there are wonderful, deep movies out there that are designed to make me think and wonder and change my perceptions. Don't ask me to go see them. I guess you can call me Pollyanna and that's ok. But I want a movie that doesn't make my heart hurt and doesn't make me cry except with joy. These two fill that bill.

I agree with you, and I love you, Pollyanna!
Be blessed,

I can't wait to see these movies. Thanks for the reviews.
Have a great thanksgiving. Hugs, Lura
Oh Marlene, I can't wait to see New Moon when it comes out here! I have devoured all the books and I loved the first film. This one looks really, really good too!!! I don't like watching films that make my heart hurt either. There is enough sadness in this world without using it as entertainment!
My family was just taking about "sweet/funny" movies yesterday. Sleepless is a favorite. The one we watch over & over is My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Makes me laugh every time.
I have seen previews for the Sandra Bullock movie and want to see it - I have not seen the twilight movies or read the books but have heard so much about them. Love Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail. I'm not sure how many times I have seen them.

The Blind Side is on my must see list!!
I want to wish you and yours a very Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving !! warm hugs, Linda
I haven't seen either of these movies but my dear grown kids saw them this weekend - my daughter is a Twilight fan and my son took his wife to see Blind Side. Both highly recommended I get out of the house and see them while my sweetheart is away from home elk hunting. Perhaps I should check out the new movie theater in our little town and see a movie! Thanks for the reviews - knowing you enjoy them makes me think it's time to go to the movies again. ~Adrienne~
Marlene you're so right!!! When I go to the movies (which is nowhere near as often as I'd like) I don't want to be scared or horrified out of my wits .... I want to smile and enjoy a heartwarming movie. I guess that makes me a bit of a wooss he he ... but that's ok, I like being a wooss LOL.
Hugs,
Joy :o)
I can't wait to see Blind Side. My daughter was recently at an adoption conference/gala event in Washington DC where she met the woman who is played by Sandra Bullock. She said she was a wonderful woman and mom. So we're all excited to see the movie because we know Sandra Bullock. Well, my daughter knows the woman played by Sandra Bullock. Close enough.
Have a blessed Thanksgiving my friend.
No way would I see or read the Twilight books but glad you enjoy them. I loved Sleepless in Seattle. Also my most favorite of all was Driving Miss Daisy. I almost know the dialoug. Also loved Benny and Jun. It was made here and loved it. If a movie is scarey, or about war or has bad language, just don't see it. So, I don't see any. I want to see Blind Side. Have heard nothing but good things.
Any movie mentioned in the company of Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail is a movie for me! That Sandra Bullock one sounds wonderful!
Fun post, Marlene. I am exactly like you in the movie department. When I love a movie, I LOVE IT! I saw "Phantom of the Opera" in the theater 7 times in 10 days. Crazy!
Jodi and I love a good chick flick. One day we decided to go to a movie and we didn't actually know what was playing when we went. Well, the list was pathetic, but there was one called "A Beautiful Mind"... so we thought, that sounds sweet... and went. Have you seen that? We were worn out when we left!!
Have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Hi Marlene! My husband and I never go to the movies. It's usually after it comes out on DVD that we see a movie. But, I like the ones you like. The happy ones, the ones that make me smile. If I find a movie I like I usually watch it over and over. I loved October Sky because of the nostalgic music throughout it and I find myself putting it in the DVD player a lot when there's nothing on TV. Happy Thanksgiving!
Oh, I love Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail and anything else with those two. Harry Met Sally and Pretty Woman are favorites too.
We saw The Blind Side last week. I thought it was wonderful. Didn't recognize anything in Memphis though. I lived there 6 years and visit regularly since Honey Bear works there. I really thought Tim McGraw did a great job and of course Sandra Bullet was superb as always.
