It's Stitching Time!

Hancock's was having a sale today so I went to check it out. Christmas fabric was marked 70% (or maybe 75%, can't remember now) off so I bought enough to make 8 pillowcases. I had already made three so that made an even dozen. Yes I know that doesn't add up! One of these is a pillowcase that was made for my now 32 year old son when he was five years old and is destined for his son who will be born New Year's Eve. Six are for some of my grandchildren and six are for the children of a friend. I also got enough Christmas fleece to make three throws and three panels for aprons, all of which will be gifts. One throw is done (all I do is do an overlock stitch on the outside edges) and two are cut and ready to work on tomorrow or Monday. And I got all of that for $45! (The "antique" pillowcase is on the bottom right in the second picture.

Yesterday I used two Moda charm packs to make these doll quilts and pillows for my three youngest granddaughters. Are they not the cutest things?
Just a few more days to stitch before we celebrate Jesus' birthday but that's enough time to get those other two throws done, the three aprons made, a wallhanging quilted, and mabe the six placemats I want to make on the sewing machine. Are you doing last minute stitching?

  1. Oh I miss our Hancock Fabrics stores. I have to drive about 30 miles to the nearest one. But I couldn't drive there today with our bad weather. No one is venturing out this evening. The snow keeps falling and it's a silent world outside. Your fabrics are wonderful. What treasures for those who receive your sweet gifts. ~Adrienne~

  4. The doll quilts are beautiful Marlene. My grandmother made me a doll quilt when I was a wee girl and I remember cherishing it. Your grand-daughters will also. Lucky them!

  6. The weather here has also been frightful. Today promises high winds and below freezing wind chills into the minus thirties. It will be a good day to stay inside.

Your pillowcases are beautiful, but I am just loving your little doll quilts. Cute, cute, cute!

    Have a blessed Sunday.

  7. These are going to be so cute when completed...you have been (and will be) one busy Lady before the 25th.

I got some large ornaments for my outside tree at Hancocks the other day...when the 75% sale started.

    Merry Christmas

  8. I was in Hancocks yesterday and found some "Absolutely Cotton" batik that was a dollar ninety five. So I picked out 8 and got a yard each. Oh MY! it rang up at $1.17. I had to restrain myself or I would have gotten 8 more yards. LOL. I love a good fabric sale.

  9. These are great...you're a wonderful, talented and sweet grandma, aren't you? My SIL, Aunt Julie, just finished up a quilt for one of her boys. When I get a photo, I promise to post it!

  11. No, I would be a nervous wreck if I had presents to make and wrap this late. I do admire what you've accomplished.

  16. My nearest Hancock store is 60 miles away. Tulsa is down to only one store now. The Walmarts here have all closed out their fabric stores. I may start my own store since I can't drive myself anywhere further than 30 miles -- I fall asleep at the wheel.
Plan B is completed. Got the tree cut and it is heavy with 40 year collection of ornaments. It's the largest tree we've ever had and I love that it came off our own land -- smells great, too.
Merry Christmas to all the family. Have a great time.

  17. What a great sale you found at Hancock's! I am pretty much stuck with Wal Mart for material, until they don't stock it anymore, that is.

Those doll quilts are just too cute!! And everyone is lucky that will get one of those warm, flannel pillowcases!

Your house looks wonderful, Marlene! I love your manger scene. I would love to put mine down lower, but I have to keep it out of the cat's reach:(

And your Christmas card you sent out is just so sweet. I love the cabin and the woman quilting. I have a flannel quilt top my grandma made hung up over my living room windows right now, to help keep out the cold air. Someday, I'm going to quilt it!
