Some people hate Mondays but I love them! I just love new beginnings I guess. Mondays are like a brand new book you've never opened, or a blank piece of paper waiting for you to put a pen to. With Mondays you can make the week anything you want it to be. By Wednesday it's too late for that because stuff has already happened that will shape your rest-of-the-week. But Mondays....
You can start Monday with a burst of energy.....wash the sheets, sweep the floors, straighten your house, run your errands. That will set the tone for a week of accomplishments.
Or you can start Monday by pulling the covers over your head and begging for just a few more minutes of sleep. If you do that you'll drag around all day aggravated that you didn't get to doze longer and playing catch-up on all that you need to do.
You can start Monday by baking bread, making cookies, cooking chicken spaghetti and then taking it to someone who's got an illness in the family or who has 6 kids and needs a break. If you do you'll sing under your breath, smile when no one's looking, thank God for your blessings.
Or you can start Monday by balancing your checkbook and getting mad that you can't afford a shopping excursion or a new car. You'll grumble all day asking why me and what's life all about anyway.
Here's my Monday:
1. I got up at 6:30, grabbed my Bible (and my chai tea latte) and went out to the deck to read and think.
2. I pulled the sheets off my bed and stuck them in the washer.
3. I cleaned off my desk and stacked up the bills to be paid, thanking God I could pay them.
What's next for me today? I'm going to sing under my breath, dance through my chores, count my blessings.
What's your Monday going to be like? It's up to you, you know.
my days always seem to start the same no matter the day of the week :) I start off with a cup of coffee with flavored cream, read my email and look at the blogs on my blog reader. Then plan the day - usual it starts with a trip to the fitness center for a work out and get that out of the way, then come home and read, clean house or whatever chores need to be and get into the sewing and quilts.

I love Monday's too. Your Monday sound especially nice.
ReplyDeleteMy Monday (today) will be laundry, and block making. Not too exciting but it is what I choose and I am thankful I have the choice.
Or, you can start Monday like I did today! You can think it's Tuesday and wonder why none of the neighbors have their garbage cans out on the street for pickup today. You can feel so proud as you push yours out there - after your hubby 'forgot' to do it on his way to head for work. And then you can suddenly realize why everyone around you has been so 'forgetful'! Because it's only Monday morning!! LOL - think I need a vacation.

Yours is the second blog I read today with this wonderful message and I couldn't agree more!
ReplyDeleteI started with my morning coffee on the deck, the morning paper, and then came inside and mage the bed, folded laundry, swept and dusted, decided on the pattern for a RAK gift I will cut out and start stitching later, started sauce in the slow cooker for dinner for tonight, posted in my favorite forum, and read and answered some emails and now blogs. I have always liked Monday's and like your analogy a lot - I guess because I love to read too!
Enjoy the rest of your day and your week!
hugs, Linda
My Monday is one to celebrate. I am off work. the sheets were in the washer by 7:35 and the capuccino was brewing before 8. It's a little housework and then mowing grass. Beautiful weather here!
ReplyDeletePeace.
What a great post. I have never been really fond of Monday... In the past it always meant that I was back to school by 7:30am and the race was on until Fri. afternoon.
ReplyDeleteThere was a lot that I loved about teaching high school but there was a lot that was really hard and took a lot out of me.
Now I can look at Monday in a different light. I can look at it more like you do and fill my week with things I want to do as well as the things that I need to do.
What a blessing it is to be retired and have my own time. All the years that I taught every minute was filled with "Need to do" things...teaching....planning lessons...grading ...with barely a minute to do housework or relax.
Austin woke me at 6:15 today. We lay in bed and played counting games until 7 when he told me it was time to eat. So my day is off to a good start....except I missed my scripture study and will have to make up for that later today.
Thanks for sharing your Monday views with us. I will look at Monday in a whole new way.
Have a great week. Love, Lura
I'm a Monday person too and for the same reasons you listed. When my kids were in school I always had a sigh of relief, I confess, as the school week began and I knew we were back in routine after the weekend. Happy Monday to you. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a refreshing point of view! Come to think of it I ALWAYS get the most done on Mondays...probably for that exact reason. I'm going to look at it as a fresh start from now on!
ReplyDeleteToday:
7 am Doors open for daycare
Changed bedding
Replied to emails
Caught up on a few blogs (ahem)
And off to bake some banana bread.
Thanks for the inspiration!
Great post, Marlene. I'm a Monday person, too!! There's a bit of sadness that the weekend is over, but Mondays and Fridays are my favorite days at work.
ReplyDeleteI love your ideas for ways to start the week off right. I hope you have a great week... it sounds like you've got a great start.
I like Mondays too! Like that "clean slate" feeling. Today would have been my M-I-L's 90th. birthday, so we went to a memorial Mass for her, and then to breakfast--all the warring factions managed to behave themselves!
ReplyDeleteNext up for me today is to finish a Star Wars quillow for little grandson's upcoming 5th. b'day and put it in the mail; pack and mail a new-baby gift to a colleague of the OC's; finish the July Bunny Hill Applique block and post a picture; wire a wedding gift to niece-godchild in England, and pack for a trip Wednesday to California...Whew! I'd better get off the computer and get cracking! Hope the rest of your week is as productive and happy as your Monday!
Great words of wisdom. Life is what we make it.
ReplyDeleteI have ALWAYs loved MOndays - something about starting over, fresh, etc.
ReplyDeleteToday, I sewed about 30 min. before work, will clean up some errands after work, (get groceries, ugh!) sew some more, take a nap, sew more, and fix a decent supper.
I've made some decisions that clarified issues, and that decision-making has cleared my mind of sluggishness and givem me more energy - hooray!
My eyes are black and blue now from you hitting me right between them.;) We had a great weekend and I was definitely grumbling when I got out of bed this morning having to go back to work. It is definitely all about attitude and I am usually the first one to say it but today was the exception. Howeer, after reading your post, my perspective has shifted once again. Thanks for your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteWell, I generally like to stay home on Monday and piddle as I call it. I usually get a lot acomplished but also do some reading and visiting with bloggers. This morning, I had arranged to meet my sister because she had a day off. I almost backed out because of it being Monday and me liking to stay home but went and had a great time with her. It was something we both needed.

Wonderful post! I love your attitude, and try to live with that same attitude every day. We are SO blessed!

I needed desperately to read your Monday post. (I didn't get to read any posts yesterday [Monday] as I had to be at work really early for a jury trial). Today it's raining, raining, raining giving me kind of a blah feeling. So thank you for the reminder that I have so much to be grateful for, no matter what the day. -Megan-
