Yesterday we walked out the front door of the mission and saw a mama duck and her babies. Of course they all scattered immediately. Mama went in one direction flopping around like she had a hurt wing, trying to distract us and keep us away from her babies. The babies ran around the corner to a back door and hid, or thought they did.
Then Mama came back and oh my they were glad to see her!
She ran from one side to the other trying to find a way out and every step she took the babies took.
They liked it best when they were under her!
Finally she just stood and waited for me to leave. Which I did. As soon as I walked away they took off for the bayou. I bet they stay there!

How cute! Poor little family, so confused.
The must have all been terrified. So cute.
Precious!
Precious little family. I have a big pond very close to my home and every spring I get to look out my windows or sit on my porch and watch baby geese follow their parents around. The parents are fiercely protective, keeping the little ones in line and gathered around them, hissing and spreading their wings at anything that comes close. It amazes me that birds and most animals take such care to protect their little ones, yet we see humans every day who shatter lives of their own babies with abuse. Thanks so much for the sweet post and pictures. Bless you!
Those babies are so cute! Thanks for sharing the pictures and I'm glad they made it back to the bayou!
I hope thry found their way home. Concrete, wood & brick doesn't give them much. Thanks for sharing.
How cute. I can't believe you got to see them!
