Stitchin'ByThe Lake (Oops! That's me!)
Yes, that's right - the very first day and I'm going to show what I did with this darling pattern. Notice I said the pattern was darling. I did not say the results were. :) When I first saw the pattern I was thrilled with the short, spiky hair cut - that's almost exactly like I wear my hair. Especially when I first get up in the mornings. So I added a little polyester batting for my hair. Yes, my hair really is white.
But that body....well that's just not me. Or that's not how I see myself. With my blinders on. I needed a few curves, rather large curves true, so I "tweaked" her figure. And here's how she turned out!
My hair is whiter than my mother's was! I inherited it from my grandmother. And those upper body curves....they came from my grandmother too. :( I remember when I was a little girl and Grandma came to visit she IRONED her bras. She had to...the cups were huge and they were cotton so you know how wrinkled they were when they came off the line! Since I'm constantly going from the kitchen to the sewing room this version of me needed an apron to reflect that. My pincushion is on my wrist and my thimble around my neck (that's a real thimble!) because there are always sewing things somewhere on me. :) And usually a few threads on my dress and in my hair.....
I wear reading glasses and always have them on one of those holder things so I added one here using gold thread to form the cords.
I'm constantly taking them off so I can see to walk around and putting them back on so I can see to stitch. That's the only thing about getting older that I hate. Well maybe not the only thing. Those large upper body curves would be another thing I hate.
Now tell the truth - she looks just like me doesn't she?
Maybe I don't really want you to answer that question. :)
Since my world has been pretty chaotic lately (I somehow had a moment of insanity and went back to work after 9 years of retirement) and that chaos means I sometimes have a moment of forgetfulness I'll just say this. I am definitely having a giveaway. But I forget what I'm giving. :) However, if you're willing to take a chance just leave me a comment below and I'll throw your name in a hat. Oh, and if you're a follower comment once but tell me you're a follower and I'll throw it in twice. For the mystery prize. Which will be something sewing related. Probably fabric. But definitely something about sewing. :)
P.S. Check out these prizes at Sew We Quilt!

I love your hair, mine should be white but my hairdresser keeps it my original dusty blonde. I am quite forgetful too, that moment when you tear into a room only to stop and think " why am I in here".
ReplyDeleteI am a happy follower, if a tiny bit jealous of those "curves"

ReplyDeleteCute, cute lady. .-) The hair looks like yours... hehe.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the give away.
regards from Sweden.
I'm a new follower. :-)
ReplyDeleteMarlene your 'me' is just perfect. I love everything about her. If I would have been in this hop I would have had to make my 'me' with a lot less of those upper curves than the pattern. My birthfather's side of the family got the upper curves but unfortunately we all take after my mom's side. It would have been nice to get a bit form both sides. LOL I'm not retired but I too use a glasses chain for when I am sewing. It keeps me from putting my glasses down wherever and then not being able to find them.
ReplyDeleteAs usual, I love your interpretation! I am one of your followers and have been since I started blogging. I love visiting your blog. This is just too cute!
ReplyDeleteLove your project And self portrait is perfect. Cute.
