Do you have any of these?
I think I must have gotten some of these when I got married nearly 49 years ago! But this particular one I brought home when my mother-in-love died and it's my favorite size. Every other day or so I cut up two or three apples throw in some Splenda and cinnamon, spritz on a little spray margerine (I know, I know, but it's zero calories!), put the lid on and microwave it for 6 minutes. It's a "recipe" I got in Weight Watchers years ago and still continue to use because I love it. Of course, it's much better if you use real sugar and real butter but when you're counting calories....
Anyway, over time it has stained badly. I don't know if it's the apple peelings or the cinnamon but it was sure ugly. This morning I got the brilliant idea to try this:
And you know what? It came clean, bright and shiny again in just a jiffy! Just thought you might want to know. :)
I still have one of those left from a set we received at our wedding a long, long time ago. It's so crazy that it is considered vintage! LOL I just started using those Mr. Clean erasers and love them. Your recipe sounds yummy!
ReplyDeleteI have one to May try your apples, thanks
ReplyDeleteI should try that receipe
ReplyDeleteI love Mr Clean erasers! They are like magic! and that sounds yummy! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWonderful recipe - gotta try it! Hubby and I use those magic erasers for everything!!! They are magic :*)
ReplyDeleteI just bought some items with the cornflower blue pattern for my daughter for Christmas last year. She loves the vintage pattern and I have a pie plate that I got for a wedding gift that she has always loved. I found the pie plate on e bay and it looked like it had never been used.
ReplyDeleteI have lots of corning ware still and I love it.
ReplyDeleteSeriously? I never thought of using that on mine. I use them on everything else. Thanks for the idea.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip. I have several of those and I use them all the time. I got my first one with Gold Bond Stamps (remember trading stamps?) before I was married. Some were wedding gifts and I've 'inherited' a couple that are favorites. I can't bear to part with them. There's nothing that does the job better than these!
ReplyDelete~Adrienne~
I had some of those but no longer. But my ceramic ramekins have a few stains and until your suggestion I never would have thought to try the magic eraser. Brilliant! :)
ReplyDeleteI have my mom's set, only with the Spice of Life instead of the Cornflowers. A couple of mine are stained too. Thanks for the tip, I'll try it! And thanks for the recipe, I'll try it too!
ReplyDeleteI love my old Corningware! And yes, the magic erasers work wonders on the stains. I've tried that recipe countless times and it's really good!

ReplyDeleteOh, I just saw that same small Corningware dish on the garage shelf along with some things I was sorting out. I am going to get it back in the kitchen, clean it up and make some apples! Mine was also a wedding gift almost 49 years ago.....in October. When is your anniversary?
ReplyDeleteGod bless......
Thanks Marlene. I have several pieces of the Blue CornFlower. I picked them up junkin. For awhile, I was picking up every piece I found, but I have donated some back. The reason I love them, is because they remind me of my daddy, who left this earth when I was 12. He gave me a set of toy dishes when I was little, and they had the same design on them. I played and played with them. Sadly,I had to pass them to my younger sisters and they are history. Oh, how I would love to find another set, but since I haven't, I 'play' (cook) in the real ones, and each time I look at that Blue Cornflower, it makes me smile because I think of dad.
ReplyDeleteI`m a huge fan of old Corning. Wish I had room for more. This is some of the best cookware made. I use Barkeepers Friend to clean my Corning and Pyrex. It`s gentle and gets rid of stains fast.
ReplyDeleteI still have the three casseroles and "frying" pan I received as wedding gifts 44 years ago. I use them often. I love magic erasers and use them to clean the bottom of my iron.
ReplyDeleteI have some of the older corning as well. Still use them, still love them! Better than using plastic in the micro!
ReplyDeleteI love my corning. I have my mom pick it up for me at garage sales. Next to fabric dishes are my favorite thing to collect.
ReplyDeleteI still have two Corning dishes from when I got married 48 years ago and I still love them . Blessings Sandra
ReplyDeleteMr. Clean erasers does a great job cleaning the sole plate of your iron as well.
ReplyDeleteAnd they do a great job cleaning my Le Creuset pots as well
