Home Again, Home Again, Jigity Jig

I've been off on another short trip.  Well if you call 400 miles there and 400 miles back short.  I went to my sister's for a few days, first of all because I love her, :)   and second because I love my aunt.  :)

I think I might have told you that my aunt, who is almost 75 and is totally blind, has moved in with my sister.  My aunt just retired.  Yes, you read that right.  She has worked her whole life and ran her own business most of that time.  She also managed some rental property she had.  She can run circles around me!  We unpacked boxes, visited, ate, and unpacked more boxes.

And how lucky was I....I unpacked the box that held this basket, which belonged to my grandmother and her mother before her.  It's a sewing basket and I grabbed it!

It's really okay that I got it and my sister didn't because she has our mother's sewing basket.  I mean really, I should have one and her one, right?  Besides I found it first and hid it under my shirt.  Not really.  But I would have if I'd had to.  :)

My aunt also sent me home with a barely used Ninja (blender, etc. ?).  Do you have one?  If so, please e-mail me and tell me how you use it.  I know it's supposed to be wonderful but exactly why?

And here's my most important question.  I need a cutting mat 24 x 48.  No store I've tried carries one that large.  Looking online boggles my mind because there are different kinds, different stores, etc.  I know I can cut it down if it's a little larger than that but have any of you bought one online?  If so, from whom?
Looking for answers!

  1. Beautiful basket! I have a ninja, the blades screw into the cups or pitcher, then you place them into the unit and hold down until it's blended to your satisfaction. I use mine to make my soups smooth (not when they are too hot! be careful!), to make smoothies, and to turn frozen fruit and milk (no sugar) into 'ice cream' that I don't feel guilty about! Also to make pesto. :)

  2. What a gorgeous basket - I would have fought you for it! lol. I buy my mats from Martelli. I just bought a 30 X 60 not long ago. I always wait for there 50% off sales. Not sure what other sizes they have. Good Luck! ~Jeanne

  5. Do a google search of that size mat - there are several companies, so do a little comparison shopping. My SIL did this not too long ago for a studio mat and got a steal!! I got my 24 x 36 mat when our WalMart did away with their whole fabric/crafting depts. Love your sweet basket - an heirloom treasure, that yes, should be with you.

Can't really help you on the mat nor the Ninja blender!??? Let us know what you find out! I've read the previous comments - but would like to know if you have used it yet!

  14. Neat that you visited your sister and aunt. Unfortunately, my sis doesn't like me that much (won't come an visit since we moved), so I never get to share such a wonderful experience. Glad you got the sewing basket and the Ninja, which I have heard about. I have an Omega Vert juicer, but I don't think that's the same thing. As for a cutting mat. Just have your husband accidentally break yours, like mine did. Then you can cut it into pieces whatever size you want, like I did!

Sauces, salsas, smoothies, ground nuts, slushies, batter, puddings....
I confess....I've even used it to make Gluten Free Brownies... :)

  17. Beautiful sewing basket, the best kind, with memories.

I might try home supply and look for a construction material that may be just what you want. You could add your own lines.

  19. Never heard of Ninja... :P
Love your little basket!! I inherited my Mom's wooden sewing box. And a couple of months ago, my husband's aunt gave me his grandmother's sewing box. It's full of cool stuff, and I am leaving it totally as it is. Not going to use any of the stuff because that's what makes is even more special!

  20. Beautiful basket! How wonderful to have something so special. I have my father in law`s favorite cookbook. He passed a long time ago, yet he is always with us.

  21. My mat came from Joanns. I believe it is a Fiskars brand. The bigger stores carry it that size, the smaller ones don't but you can order it online; I'd wait for a free shipping sale and use a coupon.
