This morning I woke up hungry - unusual for me because I normally don't want breakfast for a couple of hours. And I wasn't just hungry for anything, I wanted some bacon. I'm not even a big bacon lover but today I needed bacon!
Sometimes I wonder if our bodies crave things it needs....you know like when you're really wanting orange juice is it because you need Vitamin C? But what in the world would I need in bacon? Anyway I've been wanting to try baking it instead of frying it - something I saw on Pinterest so that's what I did. Preheat to 400 degrees, put in a pan that has a lip for holding in the grease (in other words not a cookie sheet!) and bake for about 15 minutes. No lid. Monitor it because I suppose it would depend on how much you're trying to bake. Drain and pat it dry. It was crisp and perfect! I don't think I'll ever fry it again!

LOL Marlene. Believe it or not, your body needs animal proteins. Like bacon :) So maybe you just haven't been eating enough of them lately.
I get cravings too - never bacon though. Something you are lacking - as Dorian said - proteins. My home nurse and pt yell at me every time because I am not eating enough protein.
Hmm, good to know! We are bacon eaters, especially my son. I buy the expensive microwave kind, because sometimes he just needs it quick. I will have to remember that--then you could bake the bacon while you're cooking pancakes and have them get done at the same time. :-)
Good Morning, Marlene. Thanks for inviting us for breakfast. I have seen this method but never tried it. I does not splash grease all over your oven or smoke? Now I think I need a BLT for lunch ... :) Pat
That's a wonderful way to cook bacon, especially if one is preparing a whole pound (or two). Cooked bacon that you don't consume today freezes beautifully and is readily at hand when you get an unexpected and immediate craving for bacon.
I first tried baking the bacon about 5 yrs ago and haven't fried it since, other than for specific recipes like my baked beans which need the bacon fat. For that recipe I need to cook the onions in the bacon fat and put just a small amount into the beans so for that I do still fry it. But, baking it is awesome because for my family we cook two packages and I can fit three packs of bacon on cookie sheets to bake them all at one time.
I'm happy to hear you tried it. If you have really good baking/cookie sheets too you have an easier time cleaning them than a frying pan too, which is another nice reason for baking it.
I don't eat bacon (yuck) but my family LOVES bacon! I always bake it! It is less messy and much more consistent. I do mine on a rack over a cookie sheet so the fat drips down. Ill bet your body was craving the salt in bacon.
I started baking bacon when I was having a group of people over for brunch and figured out frying that much bacon at once would take forever. I have not fried bacon since and unless I am camping will probably never do again.
You made me hungry just looking at. The bacon. Did you flip it halfway through? I'm thinking of trying it because I hate frying it!
We've been doing this for a few months - it's so great! No messy, greasy spots all over the stove, or my hands. Why hadn't we heard about this before?!
For fancy bacon arrange pieces in a basket weave style and bake in the oven. Brunch Bacon Bliss...
I love bacon! And yes, that's the best way to cook it and keep it evenly cooked!!! :)
I'll have to try that. I don't eat it but my husband likes to have it occasionally.
We found some Great Value brand bacon that is hardwood smoked with Oak and something else. It smelled wonderful!!
I haven't fried bacon for years. Baking is the only way. Hmm!
I stated baking my bacon when I had a lot to do and now it is the easiest way to do it. I crave a big bowl of shreddies when I wake up with brown sugar and banana. How is the back? Blessings Sandra
I am trying this TODAY! The oven is already preheating. :)
I love baked bacon! A friend introduced me to it a couple of years ago when we stayed at their home. Thank you for the reminder!

interesting. I usually cook my bacon in the microwave.
