Patriotic?

I've been thinking of making a patriotic quilt - red, white and blue - and so I've gone searching.  I've looked through magazines and books and even Google images where I found these three pictures that caught my eye:

Could I make a heart shaped one?  Why not!  But even though I love the look of it it doesn't seem very practical.  So what about the middle image of stars all scattered on the white background, then with a border like the last image?  Wonder how many stars that would take....and oh, my, what a lot to applique.

  2. You could always do pieced stars, and randomly alternate them with plain blocks to get that scattered look. Little paper pieced stars would be sweet! :0)

  3. Can't wait to see what you come up with. Usually when I have that kind of inspiration I can't wait to find the prefect design to make the quilt.

  4. You could do a quilt with heart shape flags on it. Maybe stitch flags and cut a heart shape from it to do the applique with.

  5. That star one would be beautiful but really would be a lot of appliqué. I can't wait to see what you decide. I'm sure it will be amazing! :0)

  6. www.merrymayhem.com has a free "We Salute YOu" patriotic mystery quilt on her page. It is an all sew day on July 19 and a new clue every hour. Carol

  8. I have made several quilts in red, white, and blue but they were not "patriotic". Someone has gifted me some patriotic fabric that I have yet to use. That mystery quilt sounds like fun ... or maybe a felt piece with applique.
