Block Exchange

There are three friends who ride with me every month to our quilt guild meetings.  It's about a 40 minute drive so we laugh and talk and laugh some more.  Last year we decided we'd do a 12 1/2" Christmas quilt block exchange as our gift to each other.  This is my block for 1010.  :)  Cute, cute, cute...don't you think?  I used a pattern from one of my Art To Heart books.  It's hard to see here but I did a machine blanket stitch in black around each letter.  Of course, now that they're done I'm second guessing myself.  Do you think it needs anything else?  Is it too plain?  Christmasy enough?  Sigh.  We are our own worst critics don't you think?

Are any of you out there doing block exchanges for Christmas?  I've got about 20 now that I've collected from silent auctions at my guild and from these friends.  I think after this Christmas I may have enough to make a top  - my most treasured quilt is one where the blocks were made by friends so  I know a Christmas one will be doubly special.

  3. Yes I agree with you it needs something...do up a holly three green leaves and some round red buttons...and put it on the corner of your letters...yep it needs just a little something lol...otherwise...I love the block exchange...

  6. I like the holly leaves idea by Madame Samm :) but still love what you have done. I need to do some Christmas-y stuff for our home. Never have as far as quilts go. Thanks for the ideas!

  7. It's perfect as it is! I wouldn't touch it. With a Christmas print sashing, it will look smashing! (Yes, I'm a would-be poet.) Your interest in swapping blocks with others is admirable. I've not had a lot of success with that unless it's a one-on-one swap where I KNOW the quilter. Continue to have fun with yours. Blessings for a beautiful Advent season.

  9. One of my quilt guild groups does a 12.5" block exchange each year as part of their Christmas party. It was last week this year I made 2 blocks...I'll post them on my blog after I get my butt in gear....It's not moving too much these days......I agree with Madamme Samm. Needs a little something....holly and buttons or a little snowman or reindeer head peeking through the V of the letter 'M' or a Christmas ornament hanging from the letter 'r'. Love the arrangement of the letters ....happy sewing!!!!

  10. I like the block just like it is. A Christmas quilt would be lovely! I don't participate in this kind of thing but it would be fun.
