Bulldozers and Brights

Last weekend I got this cute quilt top put together - My 2 1/2 year old grandson will get this for his birthday when he turns 3.  It will probably take me another 6 months to get it quilted but since his birthday is New Year's Eve I should make it.  :)  And what little boy doesn't love dump trucks and bulldozers!

I went to The Borne Quilter in Lafayette last week to spend the $100 gift certificate I won....fun, fun, fun.  When I went in my eyes went immediately to this quilt they had hanging on the wall:
I have this pattern at home - I have no idea what I was thinking when I bought it because 99% of my quilts are not these colors.  I do dark.  I do reproductions.  I do wool.  I do navy, forest green, burgundy, khaki...get the picture?  But I fell in love with this quilt!  Every once in a while I go in the sewing room and just look at it.  Why do I just look and don't start?  Because I have no bright fabrics.  None.  So this is what I spent my $100 on:
This is a good start don't you think?  Of course I need more...many more.  Anyone have any bright scraps they want to share?  :)

  5. You have *brightened* my day with all those lovely fat quarters...YUMM!! Good for you...quilting outside your comfort zone! I make my large quilts in more muted earth tones and the baby/gift quilts seem to be much brighter. I will see what I have in terms of Bright scraps. BTW, are you finished with the bulldozer pattern?? I want to make Scott a quilt from that pattern if you don't mind!!
    Love you dear friend

  14. Oh, oh, oh! I love the new pattern! While I'd never make it myself, unless it was by machine applique, the colors are right up my alley. I'm totally into the brights, and that's happened just in the last year. Please let me know what scrap colors you're missing and I'll tuck some into the mail for you.

  15. A good quilt for a little boy for sure!

I would be hard pressed to find brights in my fabric stash either. A good way to spend your gift certificate.

  16. Thought of you on the 4th. at a lady's home that I recently got acquainted with. Bob has known her Bob for a while but I hadn't been in on it. She showed me her 15 quilts of all sizes. She pieces them and quilts them all by hand. No machine work at all. I am in awe of her. And she is an artist - draws too, all kinds of things. And she has cancer that seems to be going into remission. I was so veryt impressed.
