Has Blogger Done Something Crazy Again?

All of a sudden it seems a lot more of the blogs I read are requiring that I prove I'm not a robot.  And not only are there letters to type, but now numbers.  And not just numbers but they are in a box that seems shaded to make it difficult to read!  It used to be so easy to post.  And to read.  I miss that.

  1. I found out yesterday that I had word verification turned on. It seems that when blogger changed format, they turned it on for me! (I had it turned off before. At least I had tried to!) It is very irritating.) Of course, as soon as I turned it off, I got some spam, but I'm not sure a little spam is worth the trouble of word verification!

  2. I know what y'all mean! Usually, I get the code right the first time, but sometimes not. It seems the second time, the code is a bit easier to read. I don't like it but understand why it is there. Sigh! A sign of the times!

  3. Who knows? Blogger does some weird things sometimes. I have a hard time reading them too and sometimes don't even know if my comment posted. Hope it works itself out and that mine isn't turned on too.

  4. I am glad it isn't just me that has had problems....

  5. I am a lurker. I don't comment very often, not because I have nothing to add, but because I never get the screwy word right!

  6. Blogger forgets that there are more people using it than 20 somethings with perfect eyesight. =(

  7. I have turned mine off, I agree that the little numbers and some of the newer "words" are difficult to see and make commenting more of a headache.

  8. And I'm glad I'm not the only one that's totally annoyed by the whole thing! I've not had word verification on for ages and hardly ever get any spam. I have noticed that sometimes it's worth asking the blog author if they'd turn it off. Some didn't even realize it was turned on (because as blog author, if you comment on your own blog it doesn't require word verification, so they assumed it was off). :)

  9. You would think there would be SPAM police that would get paid to FIND and blow up these bad people's computers.....

  11. I don't have a blog but I've read that the word verification is on automatically, that blog owners have to turn it off.

It also could be that blogs are getting much more spam than usual so they've turned them on to prevent that.

  12. I hate those, have a hard time with them but don't like the spam either. Hope all is well in AK, we had a good time in TN

  13. I wouldn't mind the word verification if it were easy to read. Most often I am just guessing at the letters and numbers. I do enjoy checking in with you almost every day.

  14. Yes, frustrating too. Some of the verifications or should I say almost all of them now have a portion of the verification letters in a box that appears to be almost a somewhat blurry picture. Awhile ago on one blog I was trying to add comments to the blurry picture like portion had what appeared to be more than a few things but in looking closer it looked almost like the corner of a building and then a single number 9 off to the side. That's all that was theree was just that number 9 for verification. I'm not sure what that other part was other than to confuse the 'real' person. ugh. Wish they'd leave things alone.

  15. If the comment calls for a word verification I just don't leave a comment.
I think your sidebar picture is just so restful, love it.

  16. Ya, it's exhausting to try and keep up with the changes. It's also on wordpress and other blogging interfaces.

It's up to the blog owner to disable that. I love it when I don't have to prove that I'm not a robot.

  18. AMEN!! I had no idea Word ID was on until you told me!! I immediately turned it off!! Thanks so much! No one had told me it was on! I don't usually comment on blogs that have it turned on...some bloggers want it even when I tell them how difficult it is to see. Usually the author is like me and had no idea it was on.
    Down with word ID!!

  19. It is a little frustrating isn't it , those letters are hard to figure out at times , the numbers are not so bad .

  20. I asked my son in D.C. to look at yours and get me that format. If blogger turns that word thing on when we aren't aware, I have no idea what to do to turn it off. Being quite dyslexic, it is all I can do to type regular words with the letters in the right order. Sometimes I try so many times I just give up.

  21. I've had to type numbers that look like they've been photographed off a building with the photographer in a moving car! Probably overkill by blogger to make us all turn word verification off. It certainly makes trying to comment on blogs quite tedious. (I'll whisper here that I turned off verification and haven't had any spam - yet!)

  22. It looked to me as if it was a pic of someone with a tattoo of the #22 on them! LOL I said WHAT!!! I feel your pain!

  23. I noticed it too. The ONLY good thing about it is that, I think, if you don't guess exactly right... well, "close enough" is good enough for Blogger.

  24. Thank goodness it's not just me. I thought it was because I was old and my eyes aren't as good as they used to be. This stuff is driving me nuts. I find myself leaving less comments than I used to.

  25. The other day, I had something that just looked like a photo, but of what, I had no idea! I just hit refresh to get a different image--this time a "word" and some numbers.
