Last week I showed you my spring pictures - forsythia, Carolina jasmine, azaleas, all the beautiful harbingers of spring. This morning it snowed! I'm in Fort Smith, 2 hours north of Hot Springs, visiting my son for the weekend and it snowed on us. Tomorrow night the low is supposed to be in the upper thirties. All the plants I took outside now have to come back in. I think Mother Nature must be mad at us.
The other day I mentioned the media and their biases. And I mentioned my dislike of all the negative stuff that I hear from them. Today it's movies I'm not happy with. I think I'm going to have to confess that my age must be affecting my views. I don't like movies where people get hurt, where people get abused or accused falsely or where they are victims at all. I guess I ought to just watch Disney. But then Cinderella was a victim so maybe Disney isn't safe for me either. I love romantic comedies - you know the kind I mean? Where it's funny without someone getting hurt? Like "How To Lose A Man In 10 Days" or "Sleepless in Seattle". That's my kind of movie!
And on a completely different note, since I gave up my Chai Tea Lattes for Lent I've been drinking Diet Cherry Limeades from Sonic. With extra ice and extra cherries please. Do you know that every Sonic you go to makes them different? Last week I got my drink and didn't put the straw in till I got to Bible Study. There were no cherries and no lime. Yesterday I went to one Sonic and place my order only to be told "we're low on extra ice." Excuse me? Low on extra ice? I got ice, but not extra ice. Sometimes I get one piece of lime and one cherry and sometimes I get 2 pieces of lime and 4 cherries - and that's when I don't ask for extra cherries! It's been a game my husband and I have played, sort of, to check my drink after they bring it to see what they did!
On Monday my guild is holding it's annual retreat, called Quiltmania. We go to a nearby 4H Center and stay from Monday till Thursday. There will be about 50 people there during the day, and about 30 spending the night. It's a blast! I'll report back to you.
Yes Mother nature is annoyed about something, its been so cold and rainy here in my part of the UK ' Can I ome to quitamania with you please ,looking forward to your report of it all ..love Jan xx
ReplyDeleteQuiltmania sounds like fun.
ReplyDeleteI'm telling ya, blogging is better than what's on TV or what's at the movies. It's right up there with quilting!
LOL - I live in the NE where tha weather is normal.
ReplyDeleteI am with you on this one too. The media we dislike makes sure we see enough bad stuff daily so I want to avoid that at the movies. Chick flicks and comedies get my vote for the escape they bring me.
Enjoy your quilting get away. Sounds like a blast!
I so agree with you about the movies...not fit to watch for my eyes much less for many children. I know it is my age...but what is right in God's eyes is the same as yesterday, today and tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the Sonic's recipes vary from location to location. I really like the Diet Dr Pepper at the one closest to my house...was I in for a shock when I purchased the RT 44 size at a Sonic in OKC...was not fit to drink...I threw it away (and I hate to waste anything).
Enjoy your quilting marathon...don't stay up too late laughing and carrying on with all your lady friends there.
Snowing here in central Oklahoma right now...but melting as soon as it hits...ground is too warm.
God Bless you!
I have to say that I LOL when I read todays post. The Sonic drink is too funny. I wish we had one here in Ohio..when we visit our son in OK, I make sure to go and try and get my fill.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I agree completely with your choice of movies. I am the same way, it must be age. I guess we have so many sad things in reality why would we want to voluntarily subject ourselve to it. Even America's Funniest Home Videos I don't like if someone looks like they get hurt doing a crazy stunt! Have a great time at Quiltmania, sounds like a hoot!
Spring is a fickle girl is all I have to say about the weather.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear about your retreat. Sounds like a ton of fun!!!
Hi Marlene,
ReplyDeleteWe have had terrible weather for the past 2 days and today it is beautiful, but so soggy you can't work up the yard any.
Sonic is different at everyone of them. Found this out the hard way.
Your Quiltmania sounds like it will be a blast. Take lots of pictures. Can't wait to see them.
Hugs,
Bonnie
This weather is CRAZY, isn't it? It's nearly April, for goodness sake.
ReplyDeleteI could watch "How to Lose a Guy..." every day. Or "Sweet Home Alabama" or "While You Were Sleeping" (I watch it EVERY year at Christmas). Those are MY kind of movies. Although, my all-time favorite is "Phantom of the Opera" and that's kinda dark. But I love me a musical!!
Hi Marlene,
ReplyDeleteI'm finding I watch less and less television, and I am glued to this computer more and more. If I do watch tv, I watch comedies and HGTV. Just show me how to decorate, or make something pretty!
I do have to admit I love a good mystery though. (I am bad, bad!) I don't like to hear about the real life stuff, but I love a mystery or bad guy film when the bad guy 'gets his' in the end, and justice has been served.
We are getting snow and sleet right now in Iowa. We'll see if it sticks. It is getting to the freezing mark so time will tell what will happen overnight.
Be blessed sweetie,
Michelle
ps...we have Sonics in the bigger neighboring cities, but I have never been to one.
I've never been fond of movies; much rather read a book. I love who-dun-its and have read loads of Agatha Christie, Ngaio Marsh, PD James, Dorothy L Sayers and so on. I love them set in England in the 20's and 30's. If they make movies out of them the characters and locations never live up to my mind's eye view. Plus, in my imagination, nobody actually got hurt! How about that! Getting hit over the head with a brass candlestick doesn't actually hurt!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Guild weekend.
love, Angie, xx
And did you know that most of those limeades made at Sonic are made with MountainDew or it's equivalent?
ReplyDeleteQuiltmania sounds fun.
And here I was thinking that it was merciful that the snow veered south of the flood zone this time. ;-) Hope your plants make it!
ReplyDeleteAnd have fun quilting!
That retreat sounds wonderful. I hope you have a great time.
ReplyDeleteSnow? All we've got is rain. A lot of rain. I'm thinking of building an ark.
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a great time at retreat!
Four days of uninterrupted quilting? Jeez! Some people have all the luck!
ReplyDeleteWe've had the typical up/down in the spring weather here; yesterday we had cold and flurries. I'm with you re movies, I like those that make me feel good so I stick to those these days. I'm currently in love with the 2005 version of Pride & Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility and I watch them over and over again with pleasure; great movies to have on while I stitch or knit and I never tire of them.
ReplyDeleteI think I've had enough of winter now... a little spring would be nice!
ReplyDeleteYour retreat sounds wonderful, I hope you have a lovely time!
Cheers,
Dionne
