Lilies, Crawfish and Other Stuff

I've done a little stitching since my last post....

You've seen this piece before but I decided to put it on the lid of a basket.  It's not finished because I think it needs some trim on the top and bottom but so far I like it.

And I've begun one of the Sheep Virtues - Friendship.  I'm almost through with the lettering and then have only the border to go.

Yesterday we went to Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, which is about an hour away from the mission where we're volunteering right now.  It's not a big town but it hosts the biggest Crawfish Festival in the south, or so they claim.  Well, really, who else would claim that?  :)

Ugly critters, don't you think?

There were literally thousands of people there listening to the local Zydeco music, dancing, wandering through the craft booths, drinking a glass of lemonade or a beer and sampling the crawfish.

Crawfish.... etoufee, jambalaya, fettucini, egg rolls, fried, boiled, made with spinach and a cream sauce and put into a bread bowl, even hot dogs made of crawfish.  The traditional way to cook them here is to boil them with lots of spices, new potatoes and corn on the cob.

Meanwhile, here at the mission the lilies have begun to open their buds.

What a joy they are to see!

Thanks for sharing so many fun things. You continue to find beautiful ways to display your stitching. Looks like everyone was having a zydeco time at the festival. Maybe except the crawfish!

The lillies are just beautiful. That festival looks like lots of fun. I once went to a sauerkraut festival. They even had brownies made of sauerkraut! The "Amazing Grace" is beautiful.

Your stitching is just wonderful and although I've never tried crawfish, I'm expecting that I'd like it since I love lobster and crab.

Your stitching looks beautiful, as do the lilies.

The crawfish may look ugly, but they are surely tasty!

What a great idea to apply your stitching to the basket lid, Marlene--it is so pretty. Love the lilies, but I can't say as much for the crawfish!

I love your Amazing Grace finish and it looks great on the basket lid.

It looks like a great outing. I've never had crawfish but I love shellfish in general and would probably love it!

The crawfish festival sounds like it would be a fun place to go... at least once. :)

Your piece on the basket looks nice. I agree, it needs some trim.

Soon you'll be finished with the sheep one. What will you be doing with it?

Looks like fun to get away and enjoy a festival for crawdads. I like Zydeco music and find Lisa Haley and the Zydecats to be one of my favorites artists. Lovely stitching you are doing. The basket is perfect. Creative Bliss...

You are very talented. Your basket is so pretty! We used to try to catch those by the creek when we were younger. What fun.

Buds of lilies are similar to pelicans, isn't it?
Excellent idea with a basket!

Amazing Grace looks beautiful.
I really like all of the sheep virtue pieces designed by LHN - Friendship is coming along nicely.
My boys volunteered with Habitat and built a house in Louisiana. The highlight of the trip was eating crawfish - yuck! :-)
