Don't let the difficulties of the present moments overshadow the reality of God's promises. God's promises still stand. And God's promises are stronger than our failures.

I Just Realized

I just realized that this is 2009! Oh I know it's been 2009 for almost a month now. I've written it on all my checks. Well I don't write many checks any more since they invented debit cards but still, I knew. I have 3 calendars in my house that I turn every day but come to think of it they don't have the year, just the day so I've kept up with the day better than the year. At least I'm keeping up with the day, most of the time.

Anyway I just realized that this year my husband and I will celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary. I actually have two dates I could choose. March 8 is the day we met and the day I told my mother I'd met the man I would marry. In my mind, and in his too, that was our beginning and the day we were married in our hearts. October 7 is the day we went to the church with both our fathers crying and our friends saying, "you don't have to do this...you're way too young."

I expect this to be a big anniversary. I'm sure he will give me a trip to Europe, two diamond rings and a mink coat to wear in the Porche convertible that will be sitting in the driveway. I plan to give him a new recliner because that's what would make him happiest I'm sure. That is if we remember it on the day and not several days later like we've done a time or three in the past.

The first 25 years of marriage anniversaries were really important to me. Now it's the moments that are important. The moment we say "good morning" is a good one because it means we're both up and alive! Another great moment is when I walk through the living room and he's sitting there in that, you guessed it, recliner and I'm on my way to the sewing room and all is right with our world. But the best moment of all is when we meet in the kitchen, whoever is ready first waiting on the other, to head out to church. It's the moments that are the best anniversary gifts of all.

Oh my goodness you WERE young! Even if you've had a couple birthdays since you wrote your profile. I'm so glad it "stuck"--you were obviously right!

Such a touching post. I wonder what symbol the 45th year has.

Doesn't time past fast!

And isn't life fun when you live with someone you love. Ole and I celebrate 42 in the spring. We were both TEN when we got married (snicker)!

The moments ARE what really count. Dear Hubby and I can't celebrate like we once did, but I am grateful for each day we have together. A look, a smile, or a hug are treasures to me.

We will be married 29 years in April and you are so right, it's not the date but the day to day stuff that makes it worth celebrating. Congratulations!

This is a lovely post. Congratulations! And we are right behind with #42 this July, God willing.

A big congratulations, Marlene. Such a wonderful milestone to celebrate. Honey & I celelbrated 40 years last October with a cruise. Like you, we also married when we were still in grammar school. Cough, cough.

Marlene, I knew we were very much alike, but now it's getting scary! Ernie and I will also celebrate 45 this year. In October! And I also will probably receive the trip to Europe, the diamonds, the mink coat and the Porche! And where will we wear the coat and diamonds? To the grocery store? Loading groceries in our Porche convertibles? Ya. Sure. Youbetcha!

My best moment is sitting beside him in church every Sunday morning, hearing God's Word. And our celebration will probably be an early dinner with the kids, then home, him to his recliner, me to my sewing machine!

God Bless!

I'm just happy to see you posting! Been hearing awful stories about your weather....You were just a baby [or should that be "babe?"] when you tied the knot! And how were you so sure he was "the one" on the very first day you met him??

Oh, the moments really are what count the most!! Forty five is a fabulous number~even without the diamonds and Porche, LOL!

I'm thinking that 2009 is going to be a special year and I'm going to be thankful for every moment of it!

I agree about the small moments being the best gift of all...those are the ones that no amount of money could buy.

The moments, that rings true. Congrats on it being 2009 though, that really is something. Thanks for the love on the Flea Market Fancy Quilt. The top took merely a few uninterrupted hours to assemble, you should give it ago. If you do decide to do a baby version, I did alter the fabric amounts slightly and would be happy to share!

You were a young bride and groom but aren't you glad you met and tied the knot so now you can celebrate 25 years? We often say we have regrets about getting married - we regret that we didn't meet and marry sooner! Can't wait to see pictures of your hubby's anniversary gifts to you this year. I'm sure they will be wonderful!

Hi Marlene, Congratulations in case I forget to tell you when the time comes. We will be celebrating 35 years this year and I feel the same way. Joe just got his new recliner due to his rotator cuff and I just passed him on the way to the sewing room. Our paths are the same. Love this post.
Blessings and keep stitchen'

My first marriage began in 1964 too. Mine did not last all these years, sadly. I thought I had married the man I would grow old with but he didn't agree. Gosh, it's hard to believe that would be 45 years this year for me too.
Congratulations for the success in your marriage. That's a great testimony of love.

Well when God sends you a mate it can only last. God sent me Bill 23 years ago in March and it was definitely the right choice. Congrats on 45 blessed years and 45more to come.

45 years together is such a rare achievement these days Marlene. It falls midway between ruby and golden but I haven't a clue what it might be.

We had #37 last October. The expensive present is still in the post. I don't know, they should take on more staff!
love, Angie, xx

AWWWWW! The absolute sweetest post - and I'm a mushy girl, I LOVE love. :) My Husband and I will be married 8 years this September. I remember many people said we were too young, and didn't know each other long enough to get married. But I don't regret a moment, and I look forward to saying such sweet things when our 45th anniversary comes! :) Congrat's to you two, and keep enjoying those wonderful MOMENTS! :)
