Why is Everything So Loud?

I got a haircut today. Normally I wouldn't be telling you this but since you all know that my beautician retired I thought you'd like to know I went to a new one today. It wasn't quite as bad as a new gynocologist, but almost. Oh not her - she was really nice. And even nicer was that today she was in the shop by herself. No other customers, no other beauticians...just me and some soft music. Mondays she's by herself and you can bet I'll be going back on Monday.

I've never been a noise person and the older I get the less I like it. I hate the music they play at Sonic while I'm waiting in line even though it's music from my teen days. It's loud and I can barely hear the waitperson asking me what I want. And when they can't hear me I get frustrated because I just want to say, "turn the music down and you can hear me!" And there are some shops I won't even go in because the music is so loud...Abercrombie & Fitch is one. Not that I would go in there anyway except at Christmas when I would go to buy a sweatshirt for my grandson since he's addicted to their stuff.

Is it just me or stores making the music louder these days? And if it's not me, why are they doing that? Any theories?

The music is loud to drown out the groans and screams of the customers when they see the prices??

You don't suppose you and I are getting "old", do you? I'm not fond of the loud music in restaurants and stores either...and that goes for cars passing by, they're the worse.

What no picture of the new do?
I agree on the loud music. I only want loud music when I'm all by myself!

It is loud everywhere. Even in Wal Mart back by the stereos. I usually turn them down when I'm back there, LOL!

I'm not sure why the stores play music~I've been in several that I've finally just walked out of because I couldn't stand the noise.

I'm with you. If I do not care for the type of music they are playing somewhere, I will not even go there. They definitely need calming music for our busy lives in my opinion.

Well, I can't tell you the last time I went to the mall, as you know I shop Goodwill mostly, but what I HATE is when we go to Goodwill, and you can't walk down the aisles, because of 20 kids LAYING in the aisles playing with the toys ALL OVER THE STORE,(and leaving them where they are when they leave) or worse yet, when they are screaming and crying IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE (especially the first weekend OF THE MONTH)!!! I just want to SCREAM....IF YOU CAN'T TALK AND CRY AND SCREAM IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE, GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM, but better yet, KEEP YOUR SCREAMING, CRYING KIDS AT HOME, AND QUIT PLAYING WITH EVERYTHING (including NON toys)IN ALL THE AISLES!!! (Wow, I feel better now!)

I know what you mean. Boy, I bet you didn't expect THAT!!!

Have a wonderful day, and sorry I blew up! Hope you find quiet where you need it. I sure do understand.

Be blessed,
Crazy Michelle

Yes it is too loud. I suspect it so they can cover up the voices of the disgruntled employees complaining about their jobs!! I have said "I am sorry I can't hear you because the music is too loud" several times. I'll even tell the manager if it is a small place. They can't fix it if they don't know it is a problem.

I know exactly what you mean and I hadn't really thought about it until I read this post. Yes, things are too loud these days and I am not a fan of the constant, unrelenting attack on my eardrums. I have followed my beautician from shop to shop all around town and the one she's in now is wonderful, as you describe it's quiet and she is the only beautician in an isolated area of the spa where they place soft, meditative music. It is so peaceful and tranquil I never want to leave! What a welcome respite in an otherwise raucous society!

Quiet down already!

Hi Marlene, thank you so much for bringing up this subject. I went into a store the other day ....the music was so darn loud that I walked right back out again. Honestly, I can not think about what I might want to purchase with such loud music going on. I hope some are reading this blog and it hits home.

Friends,
Susannah

I totally agree with you. I go to Sonic a lot because they have that happy hour where you can get drinks half price and I can't stand that music playing while I am trying to order either. I am with you on this one. So are you back???

Hi Marlene, I'm WAY behind in the blogging world... been reading to keep up, but little time to post.

I have noticed, esp in the stores like Hollister, Abercrombie, Forever 21 the music is SO loud... and sometimes they spray their perfume and it is so strong. Nothing like an instant headache!

I hope everything is going well for little Eli. But, what a blessing that the doctors found it right away and they are able to take care of it!

And your trip photos were beautiful.

And how did you like the haircut?

I know what you mean. I call it noise. I've hung up the phone before when I've been put on hold because I didn't want to listen to noise while I waited. I love the silence of my house when I'm home and it just seems everywhere we go, we're bombarded with noise.
