Confusion

I think my Christmas Cactus is slightly confused. And very unsure of itself. Two blooms? Maybe I'll bloom; maybe I won't.

Hi Marlene!
My Christmas cactus at work has two blooms on it too...pale pink! It normally blooms around Thanksgiving and the first of the year, but usually it has more going on than just two at this time of the year.
Interesting how both of ours only have two blooms each!

I would be lucky just to have a green plant. Yours is beautiful. Are they hard to grow.

I think your cactus looks lovely. I personally have a black thumb and would probably have no blooms at all, in fact my plant would probably have died a long time ago! XXOO

Two is better than none...years ago I tried to grow some and had no luck at all.

Have a fun day.

Two is better than none which is what mine did. I gave mine to my mother years ago and it never fails to bloom for her. She mentioned to me the other day that its about ready to burst open with blooms. Go figure.

My grandmother had a way with Christmas Cactus plants. She had dozens of them in all sorts of colors and they always would burst into bloom around the holidays.

Giving a plant to me, on the other hand, is like putting it on death row.

Your Catcus is so pretty. I tried those years ago and never got blooms. It's in Catus heaven now.
You guys really have your winter supply of meat! Bernie stopped at one deer.
I'm going to a quilt show in Columbia Mo tomorrow if you get this way.
Have a great weekend!

I have my grandmother's Christmas cactus and it never fails to bloom for me every year. Here's the secret, Ladies. When the weather is warm enough in the spring I put it outside in a protected spot - not too much direct sun. Give it lots of water during the summer. I have a watering system hooked up for all my outdoor potted plants so it gets water and fertilizer on a daily basis. When the temps cool down in the fall, into the 40s and upper 30s I move it inside. Keep it outside as long as you can, just don't let it get touched by frost. It's these cool temps that set the buds. I just moved mine inside about two weeks ago, and I noticed yesterday it's absolutely covered with buds again this year that should be open by Christmas time. When they start to open I'll post a picture. Then, after it's done blooming scale back on the water until you put it outside again in the spring. It kind of goes dormant during that period and refreshes itself to send out all those beautiful flowers again next year. Happy Friday!

Gotta love it, Marlene ... it's a beautiful plant and so healthly looking. By Christmas, it will probably be in full bloom.

Mine looks pitiful compared to yours and has NO blooms yet ... lol

Hi, Marlene....your Holiday Cactus is beautiful, so strong and healthy looking. Mine is just a baby but I just got it. Maybe next year I'll have more blooms. I used to have one that bloomed profusly each year but it died after I moved here. I don't have a shady place to put it outside.

I usually put mine in a dark area for several weeks in sep & oct. Forgot to this year, and the silly thing bloomed at Halloween. *smile*

Your plant is beautiful. We got 2 tiny ones at a yard sale. They've just about died, my husband is trying to doctor them up. We got all kinds of conflicting information on how to take care of them. Wal Mart has some beautiful ones, think I'll end up going there and buying one and give mine a proper burial.

Not many blossoms yet but it certainly is a beautiful plant! Reminds me that I was going to buy one of these for myself ages ago and I never did.

My Christmas Catus plants have about half of the usual amount of blooms this year too. Hmmmmmm I just love this type of plant even though it can be fickle.
