What Is It About Wool?

I love wool.  I.  Love.  Wool.  There, I've confessed it.  I feel like I'm in a 12 step program!  I have no idea why wool calls me but it does.  Is it the way it softly drapes?  Is it the way a needle goes through it as if it weren't really there?  Is it the richness of the colors or the variety of the textures?  I don't know but I do know I'm running out of places to put the wool table toppers I've made.  I'm trying to branch out and figure out other ways to use these things but I'm not very successful.  I have stitched up I think five things over the holidays.  The handwork is finished but not the table topper/pincushion/pillow, etc.  This is the first one I've completed this week and I'm completely in love with it.  I had to move something else to display this one.

I bought the pattern from Primitive Gatherings during their big Christmas sale.  Well, that's not really true.  Or is it?  I bought some things, they gave away some things and I'm not sure which this was.  :)  I think they call it Log Cabin.....something.  Doesn't matter since I didn't make log cabins!

I'm calling it Starry Night.  I love the wonky little snowmen, the crooked doors and windows, the textured trees, and the stars.  I really love the stars.  I live sort of out in the country but not really.  I live on a lake and there are tons of trees but I do have neighbors.  Sometimes I wish I lived really really out in the country so I could see the stars without all the lights of the city nearby.  And I want there to be snow.  But not cold.  I bet when I get to Heaven I can have it just that way.

Nice! I like wool too and have been doing a lot of it lately. I wish I could afford every color of the rainbow in many shades of hand dyed wools.

That is so cute! I love wool too... it does have a wonderful feel to it and it's easy on my arthritis for hand sewing. Great job!

Cute Post, Marlene. Confession time, I've never been much of a "wool" person to the point of even saying the word "wool" makes my skin crawl! My sweet mother would MAKE me wear wool clothes (Oh, I'm dying just typing the words) and would try to pacify my complaints by putting softer clothes underneath such as a flannel pajama bottom under my wool snowsuit pants. Oh, how she loved her wool!!Then my complaints turned to "I'm Hot!" which I'm still saying today! But I finally have a nicer association with wool to think of because when I see wool projects or fabric, I immediately think of you...which is one of the nicest thoughts I could have! It took approx. 55 yrs. to come up with a better feeling about wool but I have finally succeeded.

I love the look of wool work but I've never done it and not sure even where to start. Yours is lovely! I hated wool as a child but would give anything for those old wool army blankets we had all over the place back then, and for my mother's old pendleton jackets! :)

Very cute table topper. I love the look of wool and especially fond of the penny rugs, but I am highly allergic to wool - so you enjoy.

Oh so cute! Love all the little details! And wool... I vote color and texture.... I am absolutely in love with it! But hey! I didn't wear it as a child, so I didn't have that built-in aversion so many do!

Wool is easy to love. You don't need to worry about fraying edges and can use decorative stitching or hidden stitches as you please. Our problem is all those moths that love wool too. Luckily these days you can find non-wool felt that won't get gobbled up.

What a cute piece. I have a wool quilt from my great grandmother Just big blocks, I am going to assume which were made from old clothes.

Your first project of the year has turned out so cute. It's a great pattern and I like how you have made it your own. I've just pulled out a wool project to finish. There's something comforting in the feel of wool, as long as it doesn't make you itch!

Love it!!!! I received that pattern too...and the two others! I've made the pincushion out of the kit. I LOVE working with wool as well and have so many projects to do....with more being added all the time!

Love your handwork. It was one of the free ones. I have it too, but have not played with it yet. Can't wait to see your others.

Dang, Marlene, that is SO CUTE! I don't really do wool but I think I'd like that one. It might be your fault! :-)

I love working on wool, but don't do it very often so my stash is very small. I want to go to the Heaven you go to with snow, but not cold. That would be beautiful and so peaceful. But in the meantime, let's just keep being creative and having fun doing it!

I adore working with wool . . . sometimes patterns, but sometimes making my own! This one of yours is very darling! Makes my fingers itch to get busy stitching! :)

Such a cute topper Marlene. I too love the wool...but I have too much fabric to justify get into wool too much.... you could always send me your lovely extras. I am sure I could find a place for them...(wink) Hope you are staying warm and happy, Hugs ~Cori

I also got those freebies from Primitive Gatherings, wasn't going to make the one you did but now I will.

I'm going to make the log cabin pincushion, I've already cut out the little sewing machine that goes on top. Have fun with wool it is very addictive!
