A Call For Recipes!

I don't know if I've told ya'll or not but I've been on Weight Watchers for 6 weeks now. I'm doing pretty well but the "regular food" recipes are relatively easy to cook even for family who aren't participating (despite the fact that they need to lose weight more than me...are you reading DH?) I mean really any casserole tastes good if you add enough onions, celery and mushrooms to it...right? But here's the thing. None of the dessert recipes I've tried have been good. Oh they aren't horrible, but they aren't what I'd serve to guests either.

So here's your assignment, should you choose to accept it. I want tried and true Weight Watcher dessert recipes. I know that there are lots of you out there who've done this program like me, on again/off again. Did you find anything you love?

I totally get this and have had the same experience myself. I serve real dessert to guests and simply limit how much I eat myself. I'd rather have two bites of real cheesecake than a fake version of it! lol

But, for your sake I will at least look and see if I have any recipes that are edible. lol

Good evening Stitchin!

Jasper and I are long-time chums with Angie of 'CanYouAllHearMeAtTheBack', since she posted on Jasper's blog four years ago! We saw your plea for recipes on her blog's side-bar and decided to have a look to see if we could help you!

I did WW a while ago, and someone gave me a load of WW cook-books (the big ones you have to buy, not the little paperback free ones you get each week). I'm about to take Jasper for a walk, but when we get back, I'll dig 'em out and send you a few.

Good luck with the diet!
All the best to you,
Ruth x

Marlene,

I fear that "Weight Watchers Dessert" is an oxymoron! Kind of like Lo-Cal Peanut Butter Ice Cream. You're either killing yourself by the number of calories or with the toxic ingredients of "No sugar. No Calories." or by the ultimate taste of the darned thing! Maybe and apple or an orange???

It's not really a dessert, but the WW Giant Fudge Bars are pretty good.

I probably should be asking you. I have put weight on this winter. Need to take off the 10 pounds plus maybe 10 more. Our weather has improved so maybe being outside more with assist. Too early to plant though. May 15 is the time most people try for. Any earlier and you just have to do it twice.

Sorry, I have done WW and love the program. I have never been a desert person so that was never a problem. Again, sorry, no help.

Does WW allow you to have stewed fruit? I like sharp apples, peeled and sliced and cooked just in the water clinging to them from washing. Then you add Splenda to your taste. Put it in an ovenproof dish and pile meringue (2oz sugar to 1 egg white) over. Brown the top in the oven. I know the meringue has real sugar but - what a treat! The thing is it LOOKS like a proper dessert.

I was on WW many years ago and had a wonderful dessert I served guests but I can't find the recipe. If I can come up with it I'll send it along. It was an orange creme parfait kind of dessert and melted in your mouth. I never told my guests it was WW but one day as some friends were enjoying their dessert with us my sweetheart mentioned that it was WW and the man put his spoon down and refused to keep eating! He had been enjoying it until he heard it was good for his overloaded body! Hope you'll share what you find that's good with us.

One thing I used to do was make a pie using low fat graham crust, Instant Pudding made with Fat Free milk, add a little peanut butter to chocolate, top with low fat or light cool whip. You'd have to figure the points since it has been so long since I made one.

I'd have to agree with Cindy, though. Since WW lets you eat whatever you want as long as you count the points, I plan ahead so that I can have a little of the real thing. Add some activity and use some of the weekly points.

A nice lowfat summer dessert is just sliced strawberries over angelfood cake, topped with a little fat-free or lowfat coolwhip. I don't think that would be many points on WW and everyone would enjoy it. I do have this WW dessert: 1 small pkg. of sugar-free jello (any flavor) Dissolve it 1/2 cup of boiling water. Then add a 6 or 8 oz. cup of lowfat yogurt in the same flavor as the jello (key lime is good, I've also used strawberry) Stir these together and then fold in a tub of fatfree coolwhip. Pour all of this into a lowfat graham cracker crust, refrigerate until set. Cut it into 8 pieces. Each is 3 pts.

Congrats on the diet going well, Marlene! I've never done WW, but I'll be interested in any low cal/low fat desserts you find that still taste good!

Love your list of things you do not want to see. I guess at the top of my list is the scale at the doctor's office.

We're back - a bit later than planned (sorry). Here are a few suggestions from the WW 365-Day Menu Cookbook (apologies; quantities in UK measures).
APPLE MERINGUE - 4 medium apples; 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon; rind of ½ lemon; 1 teaspoon honey; 2 egg-whites; 3 teaspoons caster sugar. Preheat oven to 300oF, 150oC or Gas Mark 2. Peel, core, slice apples, put in saucepan with 1 tablespoon (15ml) water, cook until tender. Stir in cinnamon, lemon rind & honey. Transfer to ovenproof dish. Whisk egg whites until stiff, then fold in caster sugar. Spoon over apple mixture. Cook in oven for 20-30 minutes or until puffed up & pale golden. Serves 4; 76 cals per serving.

MINTED PASSION COOLER - 3 medium passion fruits; 5 fl oz (150ml) natural yoghurt; 5 fl oz (150ml) skimmed milk; 3 teaspoons caster sugar; 3 sprigs fresh mint. Scoop out contents of passion fruits with a teaspoon & beat well in a bowl with yoghurt, milk & caster sugar. Pour into chilled glasses & top each with a sprig of mint. Serves 3; 77 cals per serving.

Let me know if you'd like any more (I can scan & email recipe pages to you if you like).

Good luck!

It looks like you have gotten some good recipe advice from the above comments. Sorry I don't have a great one to share but I do like sugar free jello pudding mixed with low fat cool whip with graham cracker crust or just plain graham crackers.

I just cracked up reading your "hate to see list" from your last post. I also hate to see those things... but your since of humor makes me smile. I am thankful for you dear blog friend. Hugs, Lura

Well I am finally getting around to visiting blogs again. I cannot thank you enough for your tribute to Grannys Perfect Quilts. I will be doing a post on this soon. I bet you didn't think when you wrote that, that it would be used at sweet Grannys funeral. Thank you for loving my Granny.
