Don't let the difficulties of the present moments overshadow the reality of God's promises. God's promises still stand. And God's promises are stronger than our failures.

Home Security

Several months ago my husband and I had a new home security system installed.

Not because we've had a problem but frankly, times aren't what they used to be.  We've had someone go through our cars in the driveway and even in our carport but no issues with the house.  I figure the car deals were kids because they didn't take anything....just looking for cash.  They did take money neighbors had left in their vehicles.

Back to my story.  They tested the system the day they installed it but off and on I've wondered if it really was working.  We turn it on, we turn it off, but really...how do you know?  This morning, the one day I took off work and could have slept a bit late, my husband forgot to turn it off when he went to get the paper.  It works.  And that's all I have to say about that.

Been there done that . . . at work a couple of weeks ago, a co-worker went into a private room and forgot to shut off the alarm. About 10 minutes later in walked the BIGGEST deputy we have ever seen. LOL

I've managed the same thing at work...twice. Not the best way to meet the local RCMP!
At least it works, right?

hahaha......seems lots of us have had the same experience. We've had our system for 17 years. We've also been fenced in for about the same time but not the driveway. Two years ago we added a gate because of a break-in to hubby's van and a large volume of tools stolen. You're so right.....it is a very different world now. A dog who barks when someone walks onto the property also helps. Never locked out doors til the 80s in NH and I'm not happy having to do all this.

Reminds me of years ago one of my first jobs was at a Hess gas station, you know...where you stay in the little booth and take the money through a hole? I got in to doing some deep cleaning in that little booth one day and I didn't know what this remote control button was. I cleaned it real good though! We had some uniformed visitors come to visit after that but I'm glad it was a false alarm because it was at least 45 minutes before they showed up!

Oh, too cute...I totally understand! When I was working, I would live for the weekends, but then hubby would set the alarm to wake him up at 6 to go golfing...argh...Now I can't sleep past 6!

I love it! My folks had an alarm and my father would sometimes forget to turn it off and open the back door. Him being mostly deaf, even with his hearing aids in, wouldn't hear the beeping. I'd hear the warning beep from across the house and go tearing through the house to turn it off before the bells started ringing outside. He always looked at me funny when I did that. Life is truly an adventure.

Peace of mind, then! My daughter and son-in-law live in Northwest Arkansas. My son-in-law has had his security system in place for years. Last Saturday night, my daughter and son-in-law attended a music concert that didn't begin until 10 p.m. Another couple accompanied them home after the concert ended. It was 2 a.m., but the women began making snacks.

Back in Benton, our home phone rang. My husband and I had been asleep for a few hours already. The phone is on my husband's side of the bed. He answered the call, and I heard him say, "Yes, my daughter lives there. Do you need to speak to her now?" After the call ended, my husband told me that the alarm had been triggered at our daughter's house and that she and our son-in-law didn't answer their cell phones. The caller also said that the police were en route to check it out and would contact us if necessary.

For some reason, I immediately decided to send a text message to my daughter to let her know what was going on. Sleepy and without my glasses, I typed "Police on the way to your house. Verglas alarm." Pretty good -- only one misspelled word.

My daughter later told me that she'd heard her husband talking to several men outside her home. When she went to investigate, she saw four police officers talking to her husband and his friend. Seems that both my daughter and son-in-law had placed their phones on "silent" during the concert and had forgotten to switch them back. My son-in-law had accidentally set off the alarm, but he didn't cancel it properly. At least I know that the alarm company does everything possible to protect a customer's property, even in the wee morning hours. I guess thieves never take a break.

Oh gosh, did you have some visitors in uniforms? Or did you call in time? Glad you know it works, not worries now.

We know ours works, too. We use it religiously, but if someone opens a door without turning it off, we sure hear about it. If no one hears the alarm, we hear from the security company. If we don't answer the phone, the police show up at the door. I love it.

Don't forget to install security cameras, too. You'll be surprised what you see what you look at them!
