Don't let the difficulties of the present moments overshadow the reality of God's promises. God's promises still stand. And God's promises are stronger than our failures.

Don't You Just Love New Babies?

Meet my new great-nephew, Eli. He was born last week on Thursday morning - very early morning! He may have already shown his parents that he's pretty stubborn because he was reluctant to come and took his sweet time about it. He likes to be wrapped up tight and rocked and he especially likes for me to sing to him. Puts him right to sleep. Of course, with my voice that could be self-protection.
Here's the question of the day: if Eli is my great nephew, what is his relation to my grandchildren? And don't give me any of that once removed stuff because I will not accept "removed." He's mine and I'm not giving an inch on that. Well, really he is his parents first but then he's mine. Well, maybe he's my sister's grandson second, but I'm sure I'm third on the list. And I know he loves me very much because he arranged to be born in Denver when I was only an hour away on vacation!

Isn't it amazing how great God's timing can be? I mean, it's not just a coincidence that you guys were in Estes Park when your niece gave birth. My recently retired boss was the king of figuring out how people were related to each other. He'd just free-hand draw out a chart that would go back generations. He always knew the exact term of relation and what the proper term was. -Megan-

Such a sweet photo!

They are second cousins. The "removed" is not in play because they are the same number of generations away from their nearest common ancestors. The children of first cousins are second cousins. And yes, a chart make things nice and clear. I should google that. Anyway, congratulations! He is very handsome!

Just call them "great cousins!" I, too, don't like the removed part. But if he's is your great nephew, then I'd just call them great cousins and be done with it!

There is nothing like the soft sweetness of a new baby. He is precious. I have NO IDEA of relationships and don't care to find out. It gets waaaaay too confusing.

Whatever the connection is, he is one precious little fellow and lucky you to be able to be there and give all those snuggly moments. :)

He's their Second Cousin, of course he is. But as he doesn't come with a label that says so, who cares?

love, Angie, xx

You are SO pretty!!

As for the relationship, your new great nephew and your grandchildren are second cousins. Eli is your children's first cousin once removed.

Hope you're having fun on your trip!

Well, I see someone else has answered your question. I'll just say I'm envious. There are no little babies in our family at present. You look like you're having fun.

Is that Dustin's baby boy? Hooray!! Another leaf on our Tree! I'm claiming him as my 4th cousin -- my grandpa told me there were no odd numbers on the tree except for firsts. Sherry is my first cousin, Dustin is my 2nd cousin and that little bundle of life is my 4th cousin.
I think he is your "grand" nephew, Marnie -- he is on the same branch as your "grand"children. I see that often in my research.
